MIIEN BECOMES A CERTIFIED CONSULTANCY BY THE WOMEN’S BUSINESS ENTERPRISE NATIONAL COUNCIL

Personal style consultancy receives Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) certification by the East Region.

Summit, NJ — Soon to be Maryland-based personal style consultancy, MIIEN (pronounced as “mean”), earns a Women’s Business Enterprise National Council certification.

The approval letter was sent by the WBENC  East Region President, Elizabeth M. Walsh. The consultancy had already started its relocation plans and is scheduled to transfer to the WBENC Greater DMV with Sandra Eberhard as the DMV Region President.

Founded and owned by Mikara Reid, she has been published in Forbes, VOGUE, Bustle, Essence Magazine and other print and broadcast media. She has also worked with Louis Vuitton, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week NY, The RealReal, & Bravo’s Project Runway, among others. Reid noticed the frustration professionals were having with their dressing experience during the pandemic. Many complained about losing their fashion identity and individuality in this new “work/life” norm at the height of the pandemic. That void led her to pivot her business direction and make high-achieving professionals her new primary target and DTC fashion brands secondary. The pivot has allowed the business to venture into publishing a self-help book titled, What’s Your MIIEN! ? and a Personal Style Diary, exhibiting at events, hosting events and launching an e-boutique of pre-owned and reworked fashion wear, as the company gradually transitions into a one-stop-shop brand driven by originality. The company’s mission is to help you be and wear a better you.

According to Reid, she states, “ It was so hard finding the right community to thrive, while making a lot of changes in my personal and professional life. With my professional life being a reflection of my personal life, I was growing and learning a lot in my personal life and as a business woman so it was important for me to be a part of an organization that has like-minded business women and comradery. I wasn’t sure whether or not to keep this business open since my business is centered around people dressing up and going places. Now that I have a clear vision and found a community that I can learn, expand and network with anywhere in the world - as this is what affiliation with this organization means to me, I’m set to leverage other inclusive opportunities that make me a better business woman”.

Reid added “ The WBENC application process is strenuous but good things don’t come easy. Acknowledging this remarkable milestone, I’m excited about being a part of WBENC and showing off my certificate at my new location starting in October 2024.”

The WBENC standard of certification implemented by the East Region is a meticulous process, including an in-depth review of the business and a site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or women, and that the business has appropriate structure and strategic business planning and implementation in place.

By including women-owned businesses among their suppliers, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier diversity programs, which in turn empowers women as leaders and brings about a more diverse, balanced and sustainable economy.

WBENC Certification combined with professional development and engagement in the WBENC network provides unsurpassed opportunities year-round, both virtually and in-person, for women-owned businesses to grow and expand their business and innovation through events, programming and connections with major corporations and other WBEs.
