So I decided…

to curate an outfit around the makeup trend that’s been going on this year: neon green eyes. I’m not one to jump on fashion trends because I like to focus on things that are functional to my image or those that enhance my look in the long run. Since the clients for MIIEN consultancy range from corporate to home-based owners and even content creators/influencers, I wanted to take over and exercise my creativity in this article by creating two different outfit looks if I would have decided to go with the on-trend neon green eye make-up.

One asked, “How exactly would Mikara Reid put together an outfit around this concept?

I consider myself a fashion-forward person. However, my clothes need to be practical for what I’m doing during the week (and some weekends). On the other hand, I am not a make-up enthusiast. My usual makeup preferences include heavy mascara because of my naturally long eyelashes and a popping color for my lips. This is why I have makeup expert, Renata Doddy of the Artist Revealed, curating together the neon green eye makeup look below to go with my outfit suggestions thereafter.

To start off, for the eyes, Renata Doddy recommends her favorite neon color from Danessa Myrick’s ColorFix Neon. She is however specific in this case to use the Wasabi (Lime green) assortment of the ColorFix Neon eye paint. This product is a brilliant multi-purpose that can be used not only on your eyes but also on your cheeks and lips.

If you are aiming for bold, start by squeezing a bit of the eyeliner onto the back of your hand and pick it up using a synthetic brush, then apply color across your entire lid. Remember to only use a little bit as it goes a long way. If you want a more intense version of the color, you can always layer. However, it’s best to go easy to test the results, then layer and build the color as needed. ColorFix Neon makes the perfect eyeliner if you are a bit hesitant about saturating your entire lid with a neon color. The process is virtually the same. Pick up a small amount of the ColorFix Neon from the back of your hand using an eyeliner brush, then apply the eyeliner across the upper lash line starting from the inner part of the line and moving towards the outer part. Just as you would a traditional eyeliner.

Following the eye paint, when not using the ColorFix as an eyeliner, Renata advises using an ink liner, as it will pair well with the consistency of the paint formula. Her first suggestion is Kat Von D in the color black. It is both waterproof and felt tipped making this product a winner. A felt tip provides more control. Remember, with either neon eye look, you could bring out the cat eye.

According to Renata, another great ink liner that she uses often is Dior’s Show on Stage Liner in Vinyl Black. However, its tip is extremely pointy and its stem is flexible, not making it the best if you have a shaky hand. For application, follow the same technique as applying Kat Von D. Begin from the inside to the outer corner of the lash line. Do you love a winged look? Continue with the liner up and out.

Finish the eye makeup look with the mascara Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Noir in black.

For the lips, go with Pat McGrath’s Matterance Lipstick 1995 in Soft Nude. This lipstick is a soft nude color that goes well with many skin tones. You can use this alone or add the Fenty Gloss Bomb in Glass Slipper. The aim of this look is to have one popping item on your face, the neon eyes, and keep other features subtle. This is definitely a perfect look to finish out your summer.

As for the blush, she suggested Pat McGrath’s Devine Blush and the Glow Trio which consists of the colors pink, coral, and beige. However, for this look, use the Glow Trio’s coral to pair with the Wasabi (lime green) and the soft nude lips.

Coming to the brows, which by the way should always be on point, Renata suggests the Anastasia Brow Gel. To start, brush each of the brows in an upward motion all the way across. With this, you’ll be able to see where the hair is sparse and where the brows are in need of shaping. Using the Anastasia brow pen will define the brow hairs creating the effect of fuller hair in the areas needed. You will essentially build, fill in and shape the brows.

Now that you have an idea of how to achieve the makeup look as suggested by Renata, I have two fashion illustrations of what I would pair this makeup look with. With the understanding that warm colors work great on my deep skin tone, I already have certain colors selected to pair with the makeup look.

Option 1 is an ideal Date night look. In this look, I would keep my aesthetic very minimal since the makeup look is bold for me and I still want to remain confident with my look on the date. I would have on a white-column dress that is form-fitting in the top portion and has an asymmetrical neckline with ruffles around my bust area. The bottom portion of the dress flares out so it can even out with my inverted triangle body shape. Pairing a cool color, in this case, green, with a warm color will be a good combination for me. This is a method I work with when I want to wear a cool color. I coupled the white dress with a burnt orange-brown purse and shoes. Burnt orange-brown is a very familiar color in my closet because it’s like a nude color for me and it goes well with almost anything I put together whether dressing up or down.  This is the first outfit I would curate around the makeup trend: neon green eyes.

Option 2 is an ideal Solo date look. I take myself out on random occasions and it would be an opportunity to rock this makeup look on a solo date. I wanted to show my playful, vibrant and glamorous personality in this outfit. The warm color I selected to pair with Danessa Maverick’s Wasabi neon green, is an eggplant purple that has a hint of red in it. I would accessorize my look, but not excessively, with a neon green micro handbag. I would then use the eggplant purple color for my nails. The message I intend to convey through this outfit is playful yet trendy. If you are knowledgeable about complementary colors, you know that green's complementary color is purple. With that in mind and keeping the colors warm, I immediately thought this would be a great combo to put together based on my preference and skin tone.
