For many people, the start of a new year can be a perfect time..

For many people, the start of a new year can be a perfect time for you to turn a new page in your life, which is probably why so many people make New Year's resolutions for January 1st. The new year has a feeling of a fresh start and a great opportunity to change old things and establish new plans that can help you grow. Have you made your 2023 new year resolutions? A particular new client did just that by inquiring about a style transformation, also known as a makeover. Let's examine how I worked with her to achieve one of her resolutions – which was fashion-focused.

Vivian is a New Jersey native that is over the age of 35. At the end of September 2022, Vivian visited me to learn more about my image consulting and styling process and to get familiar with me as we might eventually work together. By the month of November, she decided to begin her fashion resolution with me at MIIEN Consultancy in Newark, NJ. I started her personal style journey from the inside out. This approach is recommended if you wish to have a substantial image. By doing this, the foundation of your personal style or professional image would be solid and difficult to knock off track from any distractions and trends.

My new client, Vivian appeared to be a little bit all over the place but over the last eight months, she had zeroed in on her values, priorities, and self-care as a maturing woman. As these things may vary from person to person, I was able to gather beyond the surface level information with her and identify what she meant when she said values, priorities, and self-care, thanks to my evaluation and in-depth interactions with her.

Making this year the best year ever for her self-care was a goal  for Vivian to set for herself. Although she wasn't deliberately neglecting herself, she had no excuses for not putting her best foot forward. According to her, she had been inconsistent with her personal style. The key challenge she wanted to address was her overall wardrobe and closet. She believes she is in a phase where everything is going as planned in life, but her visual presentation is bland and doesn't reflect who she truly is or who she is becoming.

Vivian said to me while in my office, “I want everything in my life to be aligned equally or close enough.” This was the impetus behind her choice to begin in November. Even though Vivian isn't particularly enthusiastic about the topic fashion per se, she does think there is a strategy in fashion (when done authentically) because she is aware that things don't happen overnight. Of course, she is right. Her awareness of this fact only made me want to assist her more because she was almost halfway to creating and defining her personal style. Many people believe that developing a personal style can be done in a flash, but in reality, regardless of the subject matter, everything needs time and effort if one wants it for the long haul.

Next, I had Vivian browse through our catalog of lookbooks as she underwent a style assessment to pinpoint the problem, challenges and her confidence alignment with her image. Now, we have a point of style reference or inspiration for where she would like to start heading for her new fashion makeover.

Here are Vivian’s Style of Examples:

  1. Personal Style Selection: Lutz Huelle Spring Summer 2023 is her personal style selection for downtime and leisure outside of work. Vivian expressed, the combination of business and fashion elements in one ensemble is one of the reasons she enjoyed this collection in particular. This embodies her personality and the life she is currently creating. She chose this collection in part because of the exaggerated sleeves. She has learned about her body shape and the clothing that flatters it, but none of the clothing items in her closet now reflects this. Also, she started looking more into tops with more embellishments in the upper portion of her body to draw my attention away from her hips..

  2.  Business Clothes Selection: Anything Chanel is her business clothes selection when she is in networking, doing office work, and real estate tours. Vivian is a big Chanel suit fan because of their classy and elegant tweed material and the structure of their suiting. Compliments fly around no matter what she is wearing beneath the blazer. She wants to wear Chanel suits or blazers more often, but she wants to customize them to fit her body type and personality by adding details to the collar that will make her upper body stand out and draw more attention to it than her lower body.

    Problem Mikara Discovered

    • “ Vivian has been copying and admiring other women who do not share her body shape.
