MIIEN CONSULTANCY BECOMES CERTIFIED BY WBENC

We are happy to announce that we earned our Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) certification.

The approval letter was sent by the WBENC through the East Region President, Elizabeth M. Walsh , following in-depth consideration of the relevance of the consultancy to the goal of the organization. To this effect, the consultancy will soon be transferring to WBENC Greater DMV with Sandra Eberhard as the DMV Region President.

MIIEN Consultancy (MIIEN, pronounced as “mean”) is founded and owned by Mikara Reid. She is a multifaceted business woman with over 15 years of experience in the fashion, retail and communication industry. Reid has been published in Forbes, VOGUE, Bustle, Essence Magazine and other print and broadcast media. Her work experience also spans to Louis Vuitton, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week NY, The RealReal, & Bravo’s Project Runway, among others.

For the past 8 years, Mikara Reid has been styling and consulting men and women, from fashion editorials to personal styling and corporate workshops. In 2020, Reid noticed the frustration professionals were having with their dressing experience as many complained about losing their fashion identity and individuality in the sudden shift in “work/life” routine at the height of the pandemic. That void led her to pivot her business direction and make high-achieving professionals her new primary target and DTC fashion brands as a secondary. The pivot has allowed the business to expand into publishing a self-help book titled, What’s Your MIIEN! ? and a self-paced Personal Style Diary, exhibiting at events, hosting events and launching an e-boutique of pre-owned and reworked fashion wear, as the company gradually transitions into a one-stop-shop brand driven by originality.

Aside from consulting, Reid hosts a girl talk show, Aye Gurl! with various co-hosts centered around women-related topics and navigating through womanhood. She also hosts Fashionably Dating Mikara, with homegrown fashion designers where the audience gets to discover the person beyond the impressive designs, under her personal brand - Mikara Reid. As a result of her strong inclination to proffer solutions, she provides research & digital media tools for direct-to-consumer fashion brands on aligning their designs with their core customers at emergetype.

According to Reid, she states, “ It was so hard finding the right community while making a lot of changes in my personal and professional life. With my professional life being a reflection of my personal life, I was growing and learning a lot in my personal life and as a business woman hence it was important for me to be a part of an organization that has like-minded business women and comradery. I wasn’t sure whether or not to open this business since my business is centered around people dressing up and going places. Now that I have a clear vision and found a community that I can learn, expand and network with anywhere in the world - as this is what affiliation with this organization means to me, I’m set to leverage other inclusive opportunities that make me a better business woman”.

Reid added “ The WBENC application process is strenuous but all great things don’t come easy. That’s what makes me excited about being a part of WBENC and showing off my certificate in my new location starting in October 2024.”
