On September 6, 2023 at 7 PM EST, Mikara Reid hosted What's Your MIIEN! ? The Conversation Series on Instagram Live. In conversation with her that night was Steve Maiorano, where they started out the conversation on defining the word evolution via The Merriam-Webster Dictionary and Mikara Reid’s perspective in her book What’s Your MIIEN! ? :
“Evolution: The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines evolution as 1.) a process of change in a certain direction; 2.) the process of working out or developing. But in the world of personal style and for the purposes that we are here to discuss in this book, this is what I mean when I talk about evolution. It is what influences personal appearance and your progress in evolving your style; 1.) Tracking or self-studying the before and after of your style and your visual markers of changes; 2.) Embracing your image development with a new pair of eyes for your unique style.”
As she gives us a glimpse into why her client (in the book) went through his personal style evolution as a 50 something year old divorcee, the discussion shifted to feeling good, looking good for you based on your personal needs. Mikara picked up on how Steve’s confidence in his personal appearance as he shares his color palette and clothing selection process over the years and currently. During the live Steve stated: “I noticed this was a huge driver in my personal style…..Figuring out the body doesn’t look good just because you wake up in the morning but what looks good on me.”
Men oftentimes get overlooked for their day-to-day fashion choices and personal appearance. It was great to have a male recognize that his body shape needs to be taken into consideration when dressing yourself just as much as your color palette, environment, and career as Steve displayed.
